Now Bringing You Social Presentations

By Chuck Dietrich on February 17, 2010

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again. The days of boring, one-way presentations are over. Never again should you have to suffer through lifeless slideshows, whether it be in the office, the boardroom or the classroom.

Today, we unveil our new plug-in architecture and add several exciting, new interactive and real-time features to SlideRocket. We couldn’t be more excited about this announcement. We are not only furthering our quest to make presentations more engaging and collaborative, but also, by adding social features such as interactive polling, live Twitter steams, live stock tickers and other RSS feeds, we are enabling presenters to converse with their audience.

Why is this so innovative? Well, with the rapid upswing in the amount of presentations created, delivered and often suffered through everyday since the arrival of PowerPoint 25 years ago, we couldn’t help but question- when did it become okay to just get by with a few bullet points when so much else is possible with today’s technology?

The answer? It’s not okay anymore. Technology is evolving too rapidly to stick with the status quo. Today, we are taking the power into our own hands here at SlideRocket, turning presentations back into a two-way conversation. Our new polling capabilities and live Twitter feeds are just two examples of the dynamic, interactive (and interesting!) content you now have the option to include in your SlideRocket presentations. And it’s easy. So, why settle for anything less? We are reinventing both your professional and personal use of the presentation into an innovative and groundbreaking asset.

Wondering how these social features will help? We all know that a successful presentation is one that engages the audience, captures their attention and transforms their senses. With SlideRocket’s social features, presenters can now speak to the content that their audience wants to hear, get them enthused to hear more and prompt them to interact with both those onstage and other audience members alike.

Voila – now you have presentations, reinvented. Evolve.  Stop using your old, boring, static, digital brochures. Our customers are embracing these innovations, turning a common business tool into living, breathing and dynamic content. Take the next step- bring the community into your presentation with our new social features in order to create the most engaging, memorable presentations on the market. It will be your greatest tool.

Watch a presentation about the release here. The new plugin features will be available in the next release of SlideRocket scheduled for 2/20/2010.

Not sure how this is a radical new developer – this feature has been available in PowerPoint (that you demean as old, boring and static!) for a long time. In fact, the same folks who built your social widget offer similar widget for PowerPoint – http://www.polleverywhere.com/twitter-powerpoint-slides
And in addition there are a number of other plugins that offer similar functionality within PowerPoint.
Please do your homework before making unsubstantiated claims as it shows you up in pretty bad light – the press might lap up your grandiose contentions but no serious business user will…

Don, thanks for your feedback. You’re right or course, PowerPoint has the ability to embed Twitter functionality with some third party add-ons. If you like working with Visual Basic or if you like having SAP branding all over your presentation then those are good options. Unfortunately none of them are supported by Microsoft. You can read about these on Cloud Ave.’s coverage of our release.

What this comes down to for us is ease of use. SlideRocket’s Twitter plug-in makes it dead easy for you to put a live Twitter feed in your presentations. Just click on the plug-in and it’s on your slide, you’re ready to go. Nothing to download or install or test. It just works. This is paramount to the SlideRocket experience and a big part of everything we do.

Incidentally we also announced a new Poll Everywhere plug-in to let you live poll your audience using SMS or Twitter replacing expensive audience response systems, and a plug-in to put live stock quotes on your slides.

More importantly we announced that these three new plug-ins are just the tip of the extensible iceberg with many more SlideRocket and API enabled third party plug-ins to come. Please sign up for a free 30 day trial, take SlideRocket for a spin and let us know what you think.

Love the polleverywhere integration! Sliderocket has been great for the training courses we offer because it works so well on both Mac and PC and this is icing on the cake.

All well and good. But you have serious performance issues in the editor, which must be addressed. I’d rather you do hard, boring work of refining your baseline application, than adding fluffernutter.

Serious performance problems and you are not alone as a hosted application (an expensive one at that.) my email based CRM is probably going to get canceled because it is as slow as molasses.

Is there anyway you can increase the size of the text shown when a twitter feed is integrated into a slide?

    Thanks

The Twitter feed would be much better if you could put your own feed in there. The search doesn’t seem to work.

Important tips in the content of your article. As I review it I can
definitely point out the “marathon” approach. If an athlete starts running as fast as he is able to run, they immediately burn out.
However, when you figure out a “rhythm” and maintain a sustainable speed, you can keep on running.
The way that bloggers can get into a strategy for
coming up with enjoyable content is to simply set aside time to be inspired
by other writers. Utilizing this strategy makes it much easier to write as an alternative to forcing
new concepts to break through your writer’s block. What
are your thoughts about this idea? By the way, thanks for
    the coffee break! :)
