Hats off to Carmen Hill @carmenhill for putting together a great presentation on content marketing, “What Content Strategists Can Learn From The Movies“.
We are in wholehearted agreement that while the planning for content marketing may not be the sexiest job around, the content you create better have real appeal to get, and keep, your audience engaged. And in this presentation, complete with fantastic visuals and a flawless voice-over, Carmen takes us well beyond accepted notions of content marketing. That is, she gives a polite nod to the idea that content marketing requires us to think like publishers, and then proceeds to give us a polite shove forward.
Much like a movie, Carmen encourages us to inject emotion into our content. Whether you’re presenting live, blogging, or sharing on-demand content, you have to tell a compelling story in order to be memorable to your audience. And just like with a presentation, this takes some planning. You need a story arc. I love that term because it brings to mind a beginning, a conclusion, and something big happening in between. True, not all your content will merit the “juicy” label, but you do need to connect with your audience on a personal and/or professional level, and preferably both for B2B marketers.
So be sure to check out Carmen’s presentation. And check out the blog at her B2B marketing agency, Babcock and Jenkins, as they have quite a stash of marketing content there for you.
