Here’s a Marketing Plan Template That Doesn’t Suck

By John Rode on May 30, 2012

Marketers, for too long we’ve been creating tremendously boring marketing plans. Aren’t these things supposed to convince management we know what we’re doing? Rally the troops behind our marketing genius? To help remedy this situation, we’ve created a new, free marketing plan and strategy template that doesn’t suck.

To get it, just sign into your SlideRocket account and visit the Templates gallery. Click the template (it’s the last one in the list), plug in your stuff, and knock your boss out. I mean, impress your boss…you know what I mean. Not yet a SlideRocket user? Sign up for SlideRocket Lite (free) or Pro and you can get the template. And don’t worry, the templates are easy to customize to change the wording, colors, animations, etc.

Our goal in creating the marketing plan template was to provide users with a really quick way to not only look great, but to communicate well. By that I mean to give you a template that enables you to deliver your marketing plan in a visual way without the drudgery of bullets, excessive text, or distraction of unnecessary animations. And all with a design that’s (almost) as fresh as your marketing strategy.

Marketing Plan Template With Smarts

In addition to a visually pleasing template, we baked-in marketing plan smarts. So, rather than staring at a blank slate trying to figure out what the heck to include in your marketing strategy, we did some of the figuring for you. So, in the template you’ll find a slide on each of:

  • Market Size
  • SWOT Analysis
  • Market Positioning
  • Magic Quadrant
  • Campaign Strategy
  • Customer Targets
  • Lead Funnel
  • Integrated Marketing Plan
  • Campaign Schedule
  • Campaign Drill Down
  • Marketing Tactic Drill Down

We anticipate some of you will adopt the design of the marketing plan template in it’s entirety. Others may just customize the colors, and those who have to adhere to more stringent branding guidelines will just use the individual slide elements (e.g., the Lead Funnel).

We’ll work to continually improve this marketing plan template. So please let us know in the comments below which slides, and additional templates, you think we should add. And look for more presentation templates to be released to the Templates gallery in the coming weeks, including our newsletter template. Included in the coming weeks will be a lead prospecting template and a great newsletter design.

Thanks for the template! I plan to use it soon. Do you have any tutorials demonstrating how to easily update a template with our own content?

    May 31, 2012 @ 12:13 pm

    Hi Lleane,

A great way to get started is to attend one of our demos, which we host 2-3x per week. Here is the link to choose a date/time that works for you: http://info.sliderocket.com/SlideRocket-Demo.html

During the demo you’ll learn how to adjust shapes, change colors, edit fonts, change transitions and animations.

Hope that helps, and thank you for the feedback.

    Nuce template!
How about a template to show off any kind of survey result data/stats?
So many people just copy the data from excel and the results are terrible.

  7. John Rode

    June 18, 2012 @ 8:41 am

    Hi Alesandra,

Great idea. We’re working on a Survey Template right now that does just that.

It will provide cool looking slide templates for collecting survey data using SlideRocket Forms/Polls, which I think will be a big upgrade from the plain surveys out there. In that template we’ll have several slides you can use to display the data in interesting, thought-provoking ways.

Look for the survey template near the end of this month.

Great template. Unfortunately, I signed up for a Pro account, but can’t get the PowerPoint version to open properly for me. It seems to be corrupt or something. Also, why does the download version only have 12 instead of 18 slides like the example on this page?

    Thanks,
    Christine

  37. John Rode

    November 26, 2012 @ 11:40 am

    Hi Christine,

We created the marketing plan template to work best within SlideRocket. While you can export most presentations to PowerPoint, we typically recommend folks not to move files back and forth across the platforms. It’s quite possible the marketing plan template needs more grooming to export properly, so we will look into it.

How do I embed a world wide web link inside the presentation? When a link is embedded inside the presentation, how will it function? Will a viewer have to click a certain area within the presentation to get routed to a website? Can the link be embedded so that a visitor can click for the next slide and be routed to a website? How can I perform these same functions in Power Point? Or, better yet, how can I perform these functions in Presentations from WordPerfect? I have WordPerfect which can be converted into PowerPoint? Sorry, but I need the basics and fundamentals. You’re doing a great job on the advanced features which assumes the knowledge of the fundamentals.

    Hi David,

Simply highlight the item you want to have hyperlinked to the web page, click “Tools” from the top nav, “Hyperlink”, and then paste the URL in “Open URL”. You can hyperlink words in a text box, shapes, pictures, etc.

Not sure I can help you with your PowerPoint or WrodPerfect questions though as I’m not as familiar with those tools.

It could be your Internet is a little slow and/or the SlideRocket export is being pokey. I’ll check with the product folks and see what they think. I was able to download it but it did take a while, and the internet where I am at this moment is not very good. Perhaps try again and just let it run because it will eventually get there.
